Although many women experience vaginal discharge, it is often not associated with pregnancy. But most pregnant women will have sticky, white or pale yellow mucus early in the first trimester and throughout pregnancy.
The increased blood flow to the vagina, combined with the increased production of estrogen, can lead to leukorrhea, or so-called white discharge – a milky, odorless vaginal discharge. It increases during pregnancy to prevent infections as the cervix and vaginal walls soften.
However, be sure to talk to your gynecologist if the discharge has:
- strange smell
- causes a burning sensation
- get itchy
- change and becomes greenish-yellow
- very thick or watery texture
These may be signs of infection.
